Track 15: The sound of making plaster heads for the play Master and Margarita at the Barbican. Hackney. 1:03

Prop maker Charlotte Austen was commissioned to make plaster heads for a play in which one head is destroyed in each performance. The making process involved pouring plaster into a fibre glass mould of a head. The plaster is rolled around the head until it is completely coated. This is repeated two times and left to set before unscrewing the mould bolts and removing the plaster head. Any excess plaster left from the mould join is then scrapped away.
